Andy Albrecht House Renderings

You do a beautiful job. This is the most helpful resource we have experienced to help us be able to visualize the decisions we are making.

Much appreciated!
— Andy Albrecht

I don’t feel the need to write much more, I think my client’s quote speaks for itself.

I work hard to give my clients an image that they can be proud of. The Andy Albrecht House was developed so they can dial into the design. It is so much more affordable to change something in a rendering than during construction, or worse, having to live with a design flaw.

Grayscale Renderings

Once I complete a project, I share it on my blog. What I don’t usually share is the work-in-progress renderings (WIP). Some work I can’t share, which is generally commercial work, but I can share my work for the most part.

Here is a WIP project that has a ton of detail. Often, the owner isn’t disclosed to me for these large homes. But, on the other hand, this one has been revealed, and it is pretty cool doing work on such a high-profile project. I will not share who the owner is, but it is pretty cool. I’ll be sure to post the final, when done.

House 7046 Rendering

What a great-looking house 7046 is. This client chooses a softer feel to their architectural renderings, which is accomplished with a series of filters. Although nothing beats an actual watercolor, I think these always turn out great.

During the early '90s, I started rendering with watercolor and other media. I loved the process, the smell of the paint, and almost everything about watercolor architectural renderings. I made a living doing it, and once computers became the norm, I quickly learned to create my renderings digitally. I would have probably found myself out of business had I not pivoted. A few hand architectural illustrators are out there, but most are retired, and it has become their hobby. Every couple of years, I get the itch to hand illustrate again, buy everything I need to get started again, but life always gets in the way. Maybe someday!

2453 South Home Rendering

Little white houses are the best! White isn’t easy in a rendering. You might be surprised to know how dark I have to get the white we would expect.

Like photography, which is basically what I do, but virtually, you don’t want any 100% white or any 100% black. So if I made a pure white material (255, 255, 255), it would be washed out and overexposed. To get a white, as you see here, I have to create a gray material (140, 140, 140).

This client chooses to have a twilight rendering for each house, along with a series of final grayscales. Often, the design is tweaked after reviewing their renderings, so the initial grayscale proofs are updated and delivered at the end.

Kayla Residence

A custom home can be a tricky phrase to use. Sometimes it is a catchphrase that is often overused. However, the Kayla house is a real custom home. I can’t tell you how many people reach out to me for their “custom home” rendering needs, but they are stock homes that the client can pick out a few design finishes. I guess it does qualify it as a custom home…. but does it?

Bluefield Log Cabin Rendering

Last but not least. Here is the final log cabin rendering. The Bluefield log cabin rendering is the 10th of 10 log cabin renderings that I was commissioned to illustrate for a log cabin designer.

I will create a single post with all 10, maybe adding them into an animation, transitional between all 10. I think it would be nice to see them together, so perhaps you can pick out your favorite. So I’ll see about doing a poll.

Clark Mountain Log House Rendering

After just driving across the country, I saw a lot of deserts. This is the 8th of 10 log house renderings, and I wanted to include a desert into at least one of them, so I chose the Clark Mountain Log house. Since this one has the word mountain in it, I included a mountain.

Edgewood Log House Rendering

7th of 10 log cabin renderings for a log cabin designer. I like each one, but this one, for me, is my favorite. The inside is ample space, two stories, with plenty of natural light. Who doesn’t like a wrap-around porch too? I kept the environment simple, which made the log cabin the show star.
