Front Drive Slim Renderings

I am not sure what's up with the naming convention, but the project's name is Front Drive Slim. I am sure it means more to my client than I know; each house does have a unique name. These houses are done for a blue-chip client of mine. A blue-chip client is a client who sends me enough work to get priority. I have to say, almost all my leads have a promise of a ton of work for a low price on the first project. I don't discount on the promise of work, but I might discount on bulk projects, usually at least quantities of 10, like this project for this client. Actually, I also get leads from people who want me to do the first project for free, and if they like it, they'll send me all their work. I am too smart to fall for this. If you are new to this business, the business of architectural illustrations and renderings, don't fall for these two popular sales tricks. Anyway, here are the houses for your viewing pleasure. They have a ton of detail, and I hope you appreciate the time and effort that goes into these.

Rowen Tree Rendering

I absolutely like it, I mean love this house. Initially, I was not too fond of modern homes when I started getting them a few years ago. I know, modern houses have been around for a long time; however, I didn’t start seeing them until a few years ago. I have learned that not all house designers are the same, and some designers are good and some, not so good, at least not at everything. The Rowen Tree rendering has gone through several color changes, and they have been using the renderings to study them. Although there is a fee associated with design and color study, it is much cheaper than painting a house over, or even worst, living with something you don’t like. Some people get this, and many don’t. Now, these are the latest color, and I didn’t choose the view, but the pictures were not selected to be compositionally good, I guess :).

778 Sagg Main Street

What a beautiful project. I really appreciate the architecture of this one. I work on all kinds of architecture, some I like and some I don’t, but all I put 100% into the rendering. One of the most significant factors in an excellent rendering from an okay rendering is the architecture. I think this one turned out awesome!

There was a curveball on this rendering project. The renderings are for a building department meeting, and they have their needs. Two requirements were no leaves on the trees and then a night time version. The above renderings show leaves, which I did first, and then I was told about the building department criteria. Here is the night version without leaves.

Bread and Butter Renderings

There are many things I love about the work I do. Actually, it isn’t much like work at all. My bread and butter are single house renderings. I do large complexes, commercial buildings, and even high-rises; however, I really enjoy the single house project I get. I do about 100 of these single house projects a year. I like them because they usually only take a couple of days and there is a lot less stress surrounding them. Here are a few of my bread and butter single house renderings that I did this month, so far.

White is the lightest color and is achromatic.

White is challenging in architectural renderings. Is snow white? Snow can also look blue or purple or even pink, depending on how the sunlight hits it and whether it is in shadow. Some artists try to avoid using pure white in their renderings entirely and instead think about what colors they see instead of what colors they expect to see.

The 565 Barnett architectural rendering has a lot of white paint. My client questioned the white; why did he see blue in the white? He sent me an example image of what he wanted to see, but after sampling the white for him, it was very blue and not white at all. After explaining color theory a little and giving a few examples, the white was no longer an issue, and now looking at it, it looks white as expected (but it isn't white at all).

Post-Render 3DS MAX Notification

I don’t know about you, but I have been trying to get this to work for decades. Okay, realistically, every so often, I would do some Google searches, try a few things, and abandon the idea. Last night I tried again, thinking that it is 2020, and someone has to have this figured out, but nope, I couldn’t find anything. Thanks to my sleep apnea, I worked on it all night, and I figured it out. First, I did the initial 3DS MAX Script searches and found nothing, so I went down other rabbit trails. I thought if I can get my PC to email from a command line, I might be able to get things to work. The command line didn’t work, but PowerShell worked great! I started sending emails from PowerShell, and my next step was to get 3DS MAX to work with my PC. After an all-nighter, the solution was rather easy. Cut/paste this into your MAXScript utility, creating a new maxscript file, and point your Post-Render script to it.

$EmailFrom = "your email address" $EmailTo = " sending it to email address" $Subject = "your subject" $Body = "Your message" $SMTPServer = "your smtp server" $SMTPClient = New-Object Net.Mail.SmtpClient($SmtpServer, 587) $SMTPClient.EnableSsl = $true $SMTPClient.Credentials = New-Object System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password"); $SMTPClient.Send($EmailFrom, $EmailTo, $Subject, $Body)

Of course, you’ll need to fill in your information, set in bold for reference. I couldn’t get GMAIL to work, and it might be because of my two-step authentication.

Here is a screen recording of my steps. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. Special thanks to @ThunderySteak for getting 3DS MAX to work for me.

Rock House Rendering

Most projects have challenges, and the Rock House Rendering’s challenge was, you guessed it, the rocks. The majority of the work you see online is people’s personal projects. Even some big-name people, who you see some stunning work come from, have totally different 9-5 jobs, and their work is work done over months and even years as a hobby.

Building a successful architectural rendering is a lot of work, especially if you are virtually building something real, matching real selected materials and environment. The Rock House Rendering is a house designed to be built on an outcrop of stone. The roads, curbs, light-posts, and of course the rocks, are all real elements that I had to virtually create, so the rendering reflects the real environment it is to be built on.

Deer River Senior Care Rendering

Baby boomers are the demographic cohort following the Silent Generation and preceding Generation X. The Baby Boom generation is most often defined as those individuals born between 1946 and 1964. Wikipedia

I have a couple of teens, both in high school. Lately, they have been using the term “boomer.” Now, don’t take offense, you older folks (me included), they are not necessarily talking about the whole generation, just the annoying ones.

A person from the baby boomer generation or really anyone who is older than the person using the word, usually used if said person is being annoying or talking shitabout a younger generation. Sometimes used in a joking way among friends. Urban Dictionry

These turned out great if I don’t mind saying so myself. Senior Care facilities are big business because we are not getting any younger as a country. I can only imagine I’ll be doing more of these as the years pass. I do like the design of this one, which always makes my job easier.

Palma Plaza Renderings

Below, please find the updated Palma Plaza renderings. This project came back to me after about a year, with updated interiors and an updated exterior. Sometimes, changes are made based on the renderings, which is called value-added. You can have an idea of how things will look, in your head, but seeing them in a photo-realistic rendering makes things perfectly clear. I tell my clients that the investment in a quality rendering is money well spent. The earlier you can make a change, the less expensive that change is.

Cohen Apartment Interior Renderings

One of my favorite parts of my job is the full gamut of design professionals I work with. I get all kinds of styles and these modern interiors I love. I have a black on black on black Jeep Wrangler, and I find myself wearing a lot of blacks. I absolutely love the black in these apartment, renderings. Also, I absolutely love brick. I am from Chicago, so it might be a Chicago thing. These bricks look like good old Chicago bungalow brick, and I love it! Having said that, I am not sold on the kitchen. What do you think? Please, leave a comment below.
